Fort Lawton Home Tours
The UW Real Estate Club recently toured the Fort Lawton homes, a project by Thrive Communities. The project encompasses two sets of historic renovations to former military housing in Discovery Park. The first, Montana Circle, is a group of 13 homes, with nine colonial revival homes built in 1900 and four brick homes built in 1935. Renovations have been completed on these homes and all 13 have sold. The second set of homes, Officer's Row, is up the hill from Montana Circle and comprises 13 more colonial revival homes built in 1900. These are currently being renovated.
The group learned about Thrive's experience acquiring the properties from the government, complying with City requirements for historical preservation, and identifying a target market. Discussions ranged from the specifics of construction design and materials to financing, budgeting, and market conditions for sales. Although these unique homes are in a public park, the Club members benefitted from getting the inside story behind this interesting development.
