ULI Young Leaders Panel Discussion 2016

February 18, The ULI Northwest Young Leaders Group and the Real Estate Club at the University of Washington co-hosted a well-attended networking event and panel discussion for young professionals and current students.  The event was held at Anthony’s Forum, in the Foster School of Business on the UW campus.

Panelists included April Mackoff, an attorney with the law firm of McCullough Hill Leary, Joe Polito, Senior Development Manager with Touchstone, Janel Charlton, Associate Broker with Real Retail, and David Otis, Vice President of Capital Markets at JLL.  Tim Jones from JLL moderated.

After an hour of eating, drinking and socializing, the panel convened and was introduced by Scott Rassmusssen, a graduating Master of Real Estate student at the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies at UW, and President of the UW Real Estate Club.  Suzanne Cartwright, Associate Director of the Runstad Center made some introductory remarks as well.

The panel discussed their respective paths to their current positions, and the attributes that contributed to their success.  There was discussion about the tension between taking risks and being patient, the role of gender in the profession, and the importance of maintaining a balance between one’s career and personal life.  The panelists gave their perspective on searching for a job and making career moves.

The panel’s insights were well-received, and the event provided friends a chance to reconnect, as well as the opportunity for people new to the industry to meet new people and gain knowledge about how they want to shape their own career path.
